New regulation: Premiums for working retirees are changing

Economic bureaucracy is working on new regulations to ensure balance in the social security system in line with the Medium Term Program targets.

In the current system, a 12.5 percent premium is deducted from employees for general health insurance, with 7.5 percent of this deduction covered by the employer and 5 percent by the employee.

Individuals who continue to work after retirement are exempt from the general health insurance premium and only pay a social security support premium.

WHAT WILL THE AGE LIMIT BE?

One of the important issues on the agenda is whether working retirees will pay general health insurance premiums. There is no consensus yet on whether this premium will be deducted from the retirement pension or from the wages they receive from their workplace.

In addition, work is being carried out on the age limit, and it is claimed that the general health insurance deduction could be applied in the 55-60 age range.

Once the studies are completed, the relevant regulation will need to pass through Parliament.

According to Social Security Institution data, approximately 2 million retirees are actively working in Turkey.
