Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici has made a notable call regarding pension payments. Attending his party's programs in Nevşehir, Destici said that the lowest pension payment should be increased to over 40 thousand liras in January.
Destici, who came to the city for various engagements, attended the memorial ceremony held at the graveside of Abdullah Çatlı on the 30th anniversary of his passing. Leaving roses at Çatlı's grave, Destici recited the Quran.
Later, attending the opening of his party's new provincial building, Destici conveyed his condolences to those who lost their lives due to a rockfall in the town of Göreme and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Emphasizing that pension payments need to be reorganized, Destici said, "Our retirees receiving low pensions are in a state where they cannot make ends meet. I have stated this before; the lowest pension should be at least 40 thousand liras. I am not saying this out of populist political motives."
Reminding that in January 2023, the lowest pension was 7 thousand 500 liras, while the lowest civil servant and public worker salary was 11 thousand liras, Destici argued that the balance from that period has been disrupted today. He stated that the 8 thousand lira flat-rate raise given to civil servants in July 2023 should also have been granted to retirees.
Touching upon interest rates as well, Destici stated that producers and consumers are struggling under the burden of high interest rates, adding, "Unless these are corrected, the nation will not be at ease, and the country will not find peace."
As part of his Nevşehir program, Destici also visited the Derinkuyu district, where he inaugurated the street in the Demirci neighborhood that was named after Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu by a municipal council decision.
