The executive order states that the US's high dependency on importing these minerals could pose a threat to "national security, military readiness, price stability, and economic resilience and prosperity." According to the document, the Department of Commerce is required to present the results of the investigation to Trump within 180 days and submit a recommendation on whether tariffs are necessary.
