War causes sharp decline in Borsa Istanbul
As the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran shakes global markets, Borsa Istanbul has not been able to escape the tension. The BIST 100 index closed the week with a sharp decline, with significant losses in banking and holding stocks drawing attention.
The Borsa Istanbul (BIST 100) index ended a difficult week in the shadow of the military tension between the US-Israel and Iran that escalated last weekend. The risk of the war, which the world is following with concern, spreading put investors in a deadlock during the week of March 2-6. The BIST 100 index declined by 6.74 percent over the weekly period. The index, which entered the week at 12,987.42 points, closed at 12,792.81 points. During the week, the markets saw a high of 13,456.56 points and fell as low as 12,746.23 points.
SECTORAL LOSSES DEEPENED
The impact of the war was not limited to the general index; major gaps were also opened in sectors considered the backbone of the economy. While the banking index (BIST BANKA) suffered a heavy loss of 16.4 percent, the industrial index lost 2.7 percent, and the holding index (BIST HOLDING) lost 9.04 percent of its value.
THE WEEK'S TOP GAINERS
Despite the general downward trend in the market, some companies managed to decouple positively. Among the companies included in the BIST 100 index, the top gainer of the week was Katılım Evim (KTLEV) with an increase of 29.98 percent. This company was followed by Tüpraş (TUPRS) with an 18.08 percent rise and Destek Finans Faktoring (DSTKF) with a 15.56 percent increase.
LIST OF TOP LOSERS
Kiler Holding (KLRHO) topped the list of companies where selling pressure was felt most intensely, with a decline of 40.87 percent. This company was followed in losses by Borusan Boru (BRSAN) with 24.5 percent and Yapı Kredi Bankası (YKBNK) with 18.34 percent.
BORSA ISTANBUL'S MOST VALUABLE COMPANIES
Maintaining its top spot in terms of market capitalization, Aselsan (ASELS) continued its leadership this week with a volume of 1 trillion 520 billion 760 million TL. Destek Finans Faktoring (DSTKF) ranked second with a market capitalization of 576 billion TL, while Garanti Bankası (GARAN) took third place with 569 billion 100 million TL.
NO CHANGE AT THE TOP IN TRADING VOLUME
Throughout the week, Aselsan (ASELS) also ranked first in the most traded stocks with 62 billion 972 million TL. It was followed by Türk Hava Yolları (THYAO) with a trading volume of 53 billion 845 million TL and Tüpraş (TUPRS) with 45 billion 173 million TL, forming the top of the list.
