MIT report: AI usage weakens teacher-student interaction in education

A new report published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) contains striking warnings regarding the use of artificial intelligence tools in education. The report, prepared after approximately 5 months of research, states that students are increasingly delegating their reasoning processes to artificial intelligence.

According to the report, artificial intelligence is "challenging" the teaching and learning methods that have been applied at MIT for many years. It was stated that students have begun to prefer artificial intelligence tools as their first point of reference whenever they encounter the slightest difficulty in classes or assignments.

The study emphasized that education-focused interaction between faculty members and students has decreased. The fact that students are turning to AI-supported tools instead of meeting with their instructors was cited as one of the primary factors leading to a weakening of the teacher-student relationship.

The report also noted that students are moving away from the habit of studying together, which weakens social bonds and increases isolation. Examples were provided showing how the use of artificial intelligence in areas such as online exams, office hours, and study groups affects the learning experience.

In its assessment, MIT pointed out that the use of artificial intelligence also makes it difficult to measure students' true performance. The report emphasized that comprehensive studies need to be conducted on how artificial intelligence tools can be used more accurately and efficiently in education.
