MIT tops Forbes' list of best US universities for the second consecutive year

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has ranked first for the second consecutive year in Forbes' annual "America's Top 500 Colleges" list, which evaluates higher education institutions in the US. The list highlights universities that provide strong academic and career outcomes for students from diverse economic backgrounds.

The ranking was published at a time when the cost of university education and its post-graduation return on investment are being debated more intensely. With the total annual cost of education at some prominent private universities in the US exceeding 100 thousand dollars, student loan debt limits and the impact of artificial intelligence on the job market are also seen as decisive factors in university choices.

Forbes' evaluation considered 14 data indicators. These indicators included graduation and retention rates, graduate salaries, the frequency with which graduates earn doctoral degrees, prestigious scholarships and awards, student debt burden, and return on investment. MIT was also ranked at the top of the list in metrics regarding graduate earnings.

FIVE IVY LEAGUE UNIVERSITIES IN THE TOP 10

This year, five Ivy League universities were in the top 10. All eight Ivy League schools secured a place within the top 20. The University of California, Berkeley, was the highest-ranked public university at 9th place, while UCLA stood out as the second public university at 12th place.

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) ranked 7th in the overall standings and drew attention as the best small private university. Caltech was also ranked first in the proportion of graduates who go on to earn doctoral degrees.
