Here is the great danger awaiting retirees: If Parliament does not convene in an extraordinary session...
The inflation data to be announced in July will determine the salary increases for millions of retirees. However, if Parliament does not convene in an extraordinary session, a great danger awaits retirees. Here are the details...
As high inflation in Turkey strains the purchasing power of retirees, the raise rate to be announced in July is awaited with curiosity.
With the inflation data to be announced by TÜİK on July 3, the interim raise rate for members of the SSK, Bağ-Kur, and the Retirement Fund (Emekli Sandığı) will become clear.
However, this increase will only be reflected in the 'base salary' of retirees.
Those currently receiving the lowest pension of 14,469 TL will not be able to benefit from the raise if Parliament does not convene in an extraordinary session in July.
Last year, due to a busy agenda, Parliament went on recess on July 31, and a proposal raising the lowest pension to 12,500 TL was accepted. However, the interim raise made in 2023 was only reflected in base salaries.
Economists point out that a similar situation could occur this year. While Parliament is expected to go on recess on July 1, it is warned that if it does not convene in an extraordinary session, no changes can be made to the lowest pension.
There are currently 3.8 million people receiving the lowest pension, and if the raise rate is set at 18 percent, there will be no increase in the salaries of retirees whose base salary remains below 12,262 TL.
