The regulation expected to expand restrictions on smoking has been postponed until after the budget negotiations. It is stated that the proposal is planned to be submitted to Parliament in the January-February period.
According to a report in the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, practices in Japan and Australia are being examined as part of the preparations. The option of banning smoking in open areas, except for designated special zones, is on the agenda.
In the Japanese model, identity-verified sales, special smoking areas, and restrictions on smoking in streets stand out. It is stated that this practice aims to narrow the areas where smoking is permitted, especially in regions with heavy pedestrian traffic.
In the Australian example, more comprehensive restrictions are applied in open areas such as parks, beaches, and public transport stops. According to the report, this model also includes rules such as smoking sections in outdoor venues not exceeding 50 percent of the total area.
If the regulation is submitted to Parliament, it is expected that new limitations on topics such as sales conditions, the use of open areas, and the scope of special smoking zones will be discussed.
