President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made assessments regarding the healthcare system in his speech at the 12th Turkish World of Medicine Congress and the TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Science, Service, and Incentive Awards Ceremony held in Istanbul.
Speaking at the program organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and TÜSEB at Rixos Tersane Istanbul, Erdoğan argued that the healthcare infrastructure has been strengthened through investments, support, and incentives. Erdoğan stated, "Today, just like in other fields, revolutionary developments are taking place in medicine as well."
Erdoğan stated that foreign dependency in medical devices and equipment has been reduced, saying, "Especially with the domestic production model in healthcare, we are now producing our medical devices and equipment ourselves instead of buying them from abroad."
In his speech, which also covered domestic production topics, Erdoğan said that automated external defibrillators developed by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with ASELSAN have been sent to 16 countries, and that mobile digital X-ray devices have been made available for use in public hospitals. Erdoğan also stated that a heart-lung machine has been developed with internal resources and that AI-supported domestic intensive care monitors have begun to be used in clinics.
Among the new targets announced by Erdoğan was a domestic ultrasound device. The President said they aim to produce 700 ultrasound devices annually with a domestic production rate of at least 71 percent by the end of two years.
Stating that the share of domestic products in public procurement has been increased, Erdoğan noted that the domestic production rate in medical device supply has risen by 7 points in the last year. Erdoğan said, "If there are any shortcomings, we will address them. If there are any oversights, we will compensate for them."
