Akın Gürlek announces: A new era in judge and prosecutor appointments

It has been announced that the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has adopted a new decision regarding the appointment system for judges and public prosecutors. Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, who announced the decision, stated that service points and point rankings will be the primary criteria for appointments.

Gürlek noted that under the new system, indicators of merit and professional suitability, as well as promotion and inspection results, will be reflected in the scoring.

We are transitioning to a new system for the appointment of our judges and public prosecutors. Service points and point rankings will be the primary criteria for appointments. Promotion and inspection results, along with indicators of merit and professional suitability, will be reflected in the scoring; the east-west distinction will be removed; and objective and measurable criteria will come to the forefront.

— Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek

According to Minister Gürlek's statement, the east-west distinction in appointment processes will be abolished in the new era. Thus, the aim is to prioritize measurable criteria and point-based evaluation in appointments.
