New details have emerged in the investigation into the death of 12-year-old Melek Göçer, who lost her life after being shot in the head in the Ceyhan district of Adana. The incident occurred on November 2 in a detached house in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet neighborhood.
A gunshot was heard while family members, who had come to the region from Mersin to harvest olives, were in the house. Melek, who was wounded in the head, was taken to the hospital by her relatives. Initially, it was claimed that the young girl had been in a traffic accident; however, checks at the hospital revealed a bullet entry wound in her head, confirming that the incident was a shooting.
Melek Göçer, who was transferred to Adana City Hospital, passed away on November 5 despite the interventions of doctors. As part of the investigation, statements were taken from the family members who were in the house.
It was stated that Melek's uncle, Hüseyin Can Boçkır, said in his initial statement that he entered the room after hearing the gunshot and found his niece covered in blood. It was reported that Boçkır claimed the gun fell to the ground and discharged while it was in Melek's hand. Following examinations and interrogations, suspicions focused on the uncle's wife, Bahriye Güzel Boçkır.
DETAILS ON THE WEAPON AND CASING IN THE STATEMENT
It was learned that 21-year-old Bahriye Güzel Boçkır stated in her police testimony that she kept a handgun due to problems and death threats related to her husband's previous marriage. It was noted that Boçkır explained the gun was placed in a hidden compartment inside the bed so that children could not reach it.
In her statement, it was reported that Boçkır claimed she took the gun from where it was kept on the day of the incident, and that the gun suddenly discharged while she was pressing the magazine release button, causing the bullet to strike Melek.
It was also reflected in the file that the suspect tried to hide the weapon and the empty casing after the incident. It was stated that Boçkır said she wrapped the handgun in a red cloth and threw the empty casing into a manhole on the road. It was recorded that police teams reached the handgun and the empty casing during their search in the locations indicated by the suspect.
As part of the investigation, 6 people, including Melek Göçer's father, uncle, and aunt, were detained. After their procedures at the police station, Hüseyin Can Boçkır and Bahriye Güzel Boçkır were referred to the courthouse and subsequently arrested and sent to prison.
