Within the scope of the investigation known to the public as the "fund fraud," former Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, her husband İlyas Kaya, and former Capital Markets Board (CMB) Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül are expected to testify again today at the Istanbul Courthouse.
In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the three individuals had previously testified in the capacity of suspects. It was learned that upon the new summons, the Kaya couple and Gönül were requested to be present at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan at 11:00.
Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and İlyas Kaya had gone to the prosecutor's office on October 7 to provide separate testimonies. During their testimonies, they were asked questions regarding the buying and selling transactions they conducted in Özata Denizcilik shares and the money movements that occurred following these transactions.
It was stated that the Kaya couple argued that they did not act under the direction of any person in their share purchases and that they were not provided with any privileged information. It was also reported that the couple declared they had sent the amounts appearing as earnings from their investments to the account notified by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF).
Former CMB Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül, who was summoned to testify for the second time in the investigation, had testified as a suspect at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on September 30 and was released following the procedures.
The investigation came to the agenda with allegations regarding fund transactions in capital markets and Özata Denizcilik shares. CHP Spokesperson Zeynel Emre, in a statement on September 26, claimed that the Kaya couple had invested approximately 163 million lira in the shares in question and had generated approximately 2 billion 170 million lira in revenue from the sale.
Following these allegations, Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya resigned from her position as AKP Deputy Chairperson. It is noted that the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an attempt to freeze the assets of the Kaya couple on September 29, and the testimonies to be taken today are considered important for the course of the file.
