The 128th Ordinary General Assembly of the Istanbul Bar Association, which includes approximately 70 thousand lawyers, was held at the Haliç Congress Center. In the election, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocasakal, the candidate of the Republican Power Union, was elected the new bar president with 10 thousand 227 votes according to unofficial results.
The incumbent president and candidate of the Lawyers for Change Group, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kaboğlu, received 7 thousand 22 votes. Making a statement after the results, Kaboğlu said that the elections took place in a peaceful environment and in a process where candidates competed within the framework of the law.
Stating that they organized the election process of the bar as the administration for the 2024-2026 term, Kaboğlu expressed that they tried to implement a participatory and inclusive management approach during their tenure.
With a participatory approach, we implemented a collective, inclusive management style, and we all contributed together to the development of the law. May our path be clear on the road of law. Goodbye.
Expressing that they tried to manage the bar together with the participation of commissions, centers, and assemblies, Kaboğlu described the determination of commission and center managers through elections as a "vested right." Kaboğlu argued that these practices are irreversible.
