Mass attack on publishing house stand at Çukurova Book Fair
The Veryansın TV and Pankuş Yayınları stand at the TÜYAP Çukurova Book Fair in Adana was attacked by a group of ultranationalists. It was reported that the incident began due to a book titled “T.C. Bize Devlet Kursun” (The Republic of Turkey Should Establish a State for Us).
A group of ultranationalists attacked a book stand at the TÜYAP Çukurova Book Fair held in Adana. It was stated that a group of 40-50 people approached the stand belonging to Veryansın TV and Pankuş Yayınları, targeted the stand, and caused extensive damage. Witnesses stated that tables were broken and fair staff were physically assaulted.
It was learned that Barış Yurteri, who was among the publishing house officials during the attack, was slightly injured on his forehead. Authorities announced that Yurteri's health condition is good.
Veryansın TV Editor-in-Chief Erdem Atay made the following statement on his social media account after the incident: “An attack was carried out on the Veryansın TV and Pankuş Yayınları stand in Adana. A group of 40-50 people broke the entire stand, smashed our tables, and attacked our friends. The team that carried out the attack pointed to our book and said, ‘This is Adana, we will not let this book be sold here,’ and broke our entire stand.”
It was learned that the ultranationalist group targeted Pankuş Yayınları due to books criticizing the peace process.
