Sea color changes in Antalya: Metropolitan Municipality issues statement saying 'it is not sewage'

A statement has been issued by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality regarding the cloudy color change observed on the sea surface in the cliffs region of Antalya. The municipality announced that the images were not caused by wastewater or sewage discharge, but were formed as a result of clean water released due to a malfunction in the main drinking water line reaching the sea.

According to the statement, following the images regarding the color change in the sea, teams from the Antalya Water and Wastewater Administration General Directorate (ASAT) conducted inspections and control work in the region.

During the checks, it was determined that a malfunction had occurred in the 450-millimeter diameter main drinking water line. It was stated that the water leaking from the line dragged soil and fine surface materials from the work area and road surface, reaching the sea through rainwater channels.

The municipal statement noted that this situation was determined to have caused temporary cloudiness and color change on the sea surface. It was stated that the wastewater pumping systems in the region were operating normally and that no discharge originating from wastewater was found during the inspections.

The statement concluded, "The malfunction in the main drinking water line has been addressed by the teams, and repair work as well as monitoring and follow-up in the region are ongoing."
