Two buildings in Sultangazi evacuated and sealed after sounds heard from columns

In Istanbul's Sultangazi district, two apartment buildings were evacuated after reports of cracking sounds coming from their columns. The adjacent buildings, located on Uhud Street in the Cumhuriyet Neighborhood and reported to have 5 floors and 10 apartments each, were sealed following an inspection by authorities.

Residents who noticed the sounds coming from the building in the morning hours notified the fire department and police teams. Meanwhile, those inside the apartments exited as a precautionary measure.

Teams arriving at the scene took security measures and closed the street to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. During the inspections, it was determined that cracks had formed in the walls of the buildings.

Following the inspection, the two buildings were sealed and police tape was placed around the perimeter. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the cracks may have been caused by ongoing construction work adjacent to the buildings.
