Adalar Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat, who was arrested and suspended from his duties as a precautionary measure by the Ministry of Interior, has announced that he will participate in the 48th Istanbul Marathon in a different way this year.
In a post on his social media account, Akpolat announced that he would run 15 kilometers in the detention cell courtyard where he is being held this Sunday to support the educational struggle of the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD).

Stating that he contributes to the ÇYDD every year by running in the Istanbul Marathon, Akpolat expressed that he would not be able to be on the Bosphorus course this time. In his post, he said, "This time, I will not be able to be on the same course, in the unique scenery of the Bosphorus. Nevertheless, this Sunday, with the same faith and the same passion, I will run 15 kilometers in the detention cell courtyard where I am located."
Akpolat stated that he is dedicating his run to the legacy of Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan and to the girls waiting for education, adding, "May every step I take be for hope, solidarity, and for tomorrows that will be enlightened by education."
