Gül's post included the following statements: "Today is the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of our Republic. On this occasion, I commemorate the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms with mercy and respect. With the belief that our country will be stronger and our people more prosperous in the new century, I celebrate our nation's Republic Day."
