AKP's Şamil Tayyar signals operation against İmamoğlu: 'It could be brought under the scope of terrorism'

While a new lawsuit has been filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu seeking a political ban, former AKP MP and journalist Şamil Tayyar has alleged that the 'urban consensus' investigation being conducted in Istanbul could extend to İmamoğlu.

Speaking on the Medya Kritik program on TGRT Haber, Tayyar argued that if the investigation deepens, İmamoğlu could also become a target.

Reminding that 10 deputy mayors and municipal council members have been arrested so far within the scope of the investigation, Tayyar stated the following:

“This investigation could go even further. There is various information and documentation reaching the prosecutor's office.''

''If solid evidence emerges that İmamoğlu is linked to the KCK within the framework of the urban consensus, an investigation could be opened against him that would fall under the scope of terrorism”

Stating that the process could evolve into a different dimension, Tayyar said, “If the investigation expands, a process could begin that leads to detentions, arrests, and even the appointment of a trustee.”

Claiming that meetings held in London with KCK executives could also be included in the investigation file, Tayyar said that recent publications by The Economist also point to this possibility.
