Claim that the bill for the economy will be pinned on Mehmet Şimşek: He shared conversations from within the party!

Evaluating the latest developments in the economy, Nefes newspaper columnist Deniz Zeyrek stated that Turkey is in a serious economic bind.

“THE EXCHANGE RATE IS BEING KEPT STABLE”

Drawing attention to the CPI-based real effective exchange rate announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Zeyrek claimed that Mehmet Şimşek and his team are directing all their energy toward keeping the exchange rate stable.

He also stated that, according to other data, the Turkish lira is at its highest level against the currencies of developing countries since the last quarter of 2019.

“THE COST IS VERY HIGH”

Stating that this policy of the economic administration has a high cost for the country, Zeyrek expressed that the focus is on efforts to keep exchange rates and inflation low, but that no solutions are being produced for structural problems.

Stating that the economic administration is using all its energy and reserves in line with these goals, Zeyrek evaluated the current situation as the result of this approach.

In his column, Zeyrek also included assessments made within the Justice and Development Party, reporting that party members expressed in private conversations that the economy is in a bad state and that public resources are insufficient.

He noted that in these assessments, the following expressions were used: “The person responsible for this picture is the program managed by Mehmet Şimşek, but we also don't know if it would be better or worse if Mehmet Şimşek leaves.”
