CHP Group Deputy Chairperson Sevda Erdan Kılıç made statements regarding the process of the property known as the "Basmane Pit" in İzmir being put up for tender by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF).
Speaking at a press conference held in Parliament, Kılıç stated that the area in question is a common asset of İzmir and argued that the rights of the people of İzmir have been harmed by the protocols signed.
Pointing to Article 257 of the Turkish Penal Code, Kılıç said that she has filed a criminal complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay on the charge of "misconduct in office."
"I am announcing to the public that I have filed a criminal complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay for misconduct in office under Article 257 of the Turkish Penal Code and for other crimes to be determined."
Kılıç reacted to the municipality receiving 30 percent of the area under the protocols. Claiming that there is a possibility of reclaiming the entire area for İzmir, Kılıç asked, "When the people of İzmir have a 100 percent right to it, who has the authority to settle for 30 percent?"
Stating that they will follow the process, Kılıç said, "This city is no one's personal property. The future of İzmir cannot be confined to protocols signed behind closed doors."
