Former AK Party Deputy Chairperson Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, following allegations that she and her husband had earned approximately 2 billion TL through a fund, stated in a declaration that she had returned the amount beyond her principal.
Speaking to Nagehan Alçı, Kaya argued that there was "misinformation" regarding the process. Kaya stated, "I returned the entire amount exceeding 2 billion liras, excluding my principal. I only took back my principal, and I returned the rest as it was."
Kaya had resigned from her position as AK Party Deputy Chairperson after the allegations in question came to light. Capital markets legislation stipulates that individuals who obtain or provide unfair benefits to others are subject to a payment obligation equal to twice the amount of the benefit.
Kaya also denied allegations of a connection between her and Esenyurt Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş, who was arrested as part of a bribery investigation. She said, "He has nothing to do with me. I did not provide any reference for him during my tenure. If he entered the ministry after my time, I have no knowledge of that either."
