Is there a rift in the peace process? Consecutive reactions from DEM Party: Reminded of those words by Bahçeli

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made important statements at her party's “Peace and Democratic Society Meeting” in Adana. Pointing out that there has been no meeting with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, Hatimoğulları said the process must accelerate. “Our expectation is that continuous meetings are held with Öcalan and that he begins to live freely,” said Hatimoğulları, stating that this step is of critical importance for the progress of the peace process.

A COMMISSION MUST BE ESTABLISHED IN PARLIAMENT

Hatimoğulları said that the process in question is not solely the government's responsibility and must receive the support of all political parties and social segments. “We are very close to solving Turkey's 100-year-old problem. It is important that this process is embraced by all segments,” she said, stating that a commission should be established in Parliament to investigate corruption. She expressed that this commission should cover all municipalities and uncover corruption in a transparent manner.

URGENT STEPS MUST BE TAKEN

Stating that important steps must be taken for peace and democracy, Hatimoğulları noted that the decisions of the Constitutional Court (AYM) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) must be implemented as soon as possible. “The release of Can Atalay, Osman Kavala, Figen Yüksekdağ, and Selahattin Demirtaş is essential,” she said. Furthermore, emphasizing that these steps would serve the spirit of the peace process, Hatimoğulları expressed that these demands must be met urgently.

Hatimoğulları recalled MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's previous statements regarding terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, saying, “Bahçeli had said, ‘Let Öcalan come and speak in Parliament,’ but there is no development. Some time has passed since those words.”

MAJOR STEPS EXPECTED ON OCTOBER 1

Hatimoğulları stated that they expect important laws for peace to be passed and democratic reforms to be realized by October 1. Pointing out that the Democratic Integration Law, freedom laws, and the execution law should be brought to the agenda, Hatimoğulları stated that these steps would pave the country's way to peace.

“Let no one harm this process by making election calculations,” said Hatimoğulları, stating that election and political concerns should be set aside. Emphasizing the importance of taking brave steps for peace, Hatimoğulları called on the government to take action, saying, “We must all be brave, break the status quo, and bring true peace to Turkey.”
