Stating that he has been involved in politics within the CHP for approximately 20 years, Kösedağı recalled that he was referred to the disciplinary board last month with a request for permanent expulsion. Kösedağı said that he received positive feedback from citizens in the field during this period and that he made his decision after a one-month evaluation.
Dear residents of Kadıköy. Last month, I was referred to the disciplinary board with a request for permanent expulsion from the CHP, of which I have been a member for 20 years. The feedback I received from citizens in the field over the past month has been very positive. I made my decision during this one-month period. I would like you to know that I am continuing my political journey by joining the New Party, led by our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel. We made this decision together with 30 of our 36 council members.
In his post, Kösedağı also included the phrase, “A NEW beginning...”
The announcement is considered a significant development both in terms of the disciplinary process within the CHP and the balance of power in local governments in Istanbul.
