The YENİ Party is heading to a leadership primary ahead of its 1st Ordinary Congress, which will be held on November 14-15. Party members will cast their votes in approximately 3,000 ballot boxes to be set up at provincial and district headquarters across 81 provinces.
In the primary, those who became party members before November 5 will have the right to vote. During the ordinary congress process that began on August 26, the party had previously held primaries for provincial and district administrations through member votes, followed by the completion of congresses via delegate votes.
Chairman Özgür Özel, who will participate in the leadership primary as the sole candidate, invited party members to the polls in a call made from his social media account. Stating that they have established a new system where the word, decision, and authority belong to the members, Özel said, "Come, let us take the first major step of new-generation politics together."
Özel also shared his 17-point work program for the new term. The program highlights goals such as expanding the party's social support, increasing member participation in decision-making processes, and forming cadres ready for government.
In the shared program, determining the party's presidential candidate for the first elections and securing a majority in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) were also among the objectives. During the two-day congress, more than a thousand delegates will elect the chairman, the 80-member Party Assembly, and the 15-member High Disciplinary Board.
