Notable gift from Polish leader to Erdoğan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in New York for the 81st United Nations (UN) General Assembly, met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki at the Turkish House (Türkevi). During the meeting, Nawrocki presented a sword to Erdoğan.

According to the statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the agenda of the two leaders included regional and global developments, as well as bilateral relations between Turkey and Poland.

In the meeting, Erdoğan stated that Turkey is making efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine War and is specifically conducting work regarding navigation safety in the Black Sea.

Expressing that steps to increase the trade volume between Turkey and Poland would be beneficial, Erdoğan noted that efforts to advance cooperation in many areas, particularly in the defense industry, are ongoing.

It was also reported that Erdoğan invited Nawrocki to the COP31 Leaders' Summit to be held in Antalya.

The gift of the sword at the meeting followed Erdoğan's presentation of "Gümüşay" pistols to several leaders, including Nawrocki, at the NATO summit held in Ankara. It had been reported that the weapons given to the leaders after the summit were subject to different procedures in some countries due to legislation and delivery processes.
