Süleyman Soylu assesses security policies: 'Turkey cannot have an internal threat'

Former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu shared his assessments regarding Turkey's security policies in the first episode of the Fidecast program, prepared by students of Gazi University.

Responding to questions from Mehmet Fatih Güleç in the program prepared by the Gazi University Ideas and Values Society, Soylu made statements on various topics ranging from security policies to politics, and from the July 15 coup attempt to social media.

Speaking on the source of threats against Turkey, Soylu argued that the greatest threat comes from the outside. Soylu stated, "One hundred percent outside. Turkey cannot have an internal threat. Turkey has an external threat. The end of the ball of yarn for all events occurring in Turkey is outside. All events."

Stating that Turkey has the power to solve its own problems with its historical and social accumulation, Soylu emphasized the solidarity and cooperation culture of the Anatolian geography. He used the expressions, "This is the country of the Ahmet Yesevi culture. This is the country of Hacı Bektaş, Mevlana, Köroğlu, and Yunus Emre."

ANXIETY AFTER JULY 15

Answering the question of what concerned him the most during his tenure as Minister of Interior, Soylu said that he felt great anxiety about the possibility of a similar uprising occurring again after the July 15 coup attempt.

Stating that he did not see this anxiety as a personal fear, Soylu said, "But I was very afraid that if we sleep and cannot prevent this, and while we are sleeping at night, such a thing would happen to the society, to the nation, to the country. I never went to bed until three in the morning."

Saying that he thinks a significant part of society understands him, Soylu expressed that he also wants some segments to understand them.

Touching on the impact of social media on politics and society in the program, Soylu described social media platforms as a "tutelage mechanism." He made the assessment, "Whoever established and designed social media, whoever created its algorithms, is its boss."

Addressing the youth, Soylu said that lasting success in politics comes from producing ideas. Soylu said, "Those who design politics and those who win in politics are always those who conduct politics based on their ideas."

At the end of the program, giving advice to the youth to work and develop their skills, Soylu used the expressions, "God is with those who work. Develop your skills. Perhaps someone among us will emerge and find a solution to the world's most important problem."
