The Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) visited the DEM Party and met with the party's co-chairs.
The TİP delegation included Erkan Baş, Sera Kadıgil, and Doğan Ergün. They met with the DEM delegation consisting of Tülay Hatimoğulları, Tuncer Bakırhan, and İlknur Birol. A statement from the DEM Party reported that a productive meeting was held regarding the political and economic crisis currently facing Turkey.
"UNITING SOCIAL STRUGGLE"
Following the meeting, the statement issued by the DEM Party included the following remarks:
"Pointing out that the main line of struggle against the difficult conditions created by the political and economic crisis that the peoples of Turkey are going through must be woven in factories, fields, and streets in partnership with society, the meeting reached a consensus that: 'We are aware that social struggle must be united. We are determined to come together with all segments that can be part of a common struggle area, including women, ecology, faith, and class forces, and to grow our struggle.'"
The DEM Party stated that the meeting also drew attention to the responsibility of democratic forces and the importance of a common struggle in the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue, rather than focusing solely on the dimension concerning the state and the government.
The meeting also addressed the situation of Can Atalay, who remains imprisoned due to his conviction in the Gezi Park trial, despite being elected as a member of parliament, receiving his mandate, and the Constitutional Court (AYM) ruling that his rights had been violated.
