YENİ Party's Akdoğan calculates ground meat with a 200-lira banknote: It dropped from 750 grams to 200 grams

YENİ Party Ankara MP Umut Akdoğan reacted to the cost of living through meat prices. Wearing an apron at a butcher shop and grinding meat, Akdoğan explained the decline in the purchasing power of a 200-lira banknote through the amount of ground meat it can buy.

Akdoğan stated that in 2023, when the AKP last came to power, 750 grams of ground meat could be purchased with 200 liras, and noted that in the three years that have passed, the amount that can be bought with the same money has fallen to 200 grams.

Showing 750 grams of ground meat at the butcher, Akdoğan said, "When they last came to power in 2023, if someone gave 200 liras today, they could buy 750 grams of ground meat. Look at the point we have reached today."

Weighing the ground meat he prepared on a scale, Akdoğan stated that one can now only buy 200 grams of ground meat for 200 liras, saying, "555 grams of ground meat have slipped through my fingers. And what is left? After 3 years, this is all that remains for 200 liras. A ball of ground meat."

HE EXPLAINED YENİ PARTY'S PROPOSALS

Criticizing the government over its economic policies, Akdoğan said that citizens are struggling to make ends meet. Arguing that the YENİ Party will be an alternative to the government with the support of the people in the upcoming election, Akdoğan used the expression, "Our ground meat will grow this big again."

Akdoğan stated that his party has prepared proposals targeting production costs to lower meat prices. Saying that support for energy, fertilizer, diesel, and feed must be increased, Akdoğan expressed that supporting producers in small and large cattle farming would also provide relief to butchers and consumers.

Emphasizing that dependence on imports for meat must be reduced, Akdoğan said that protecting pasture lands is also of great importance. Akdoğan argued that if pastures are not converted into residential areas, input costs in livestock are reduced, and producers are supported, meat could reach dinner tables more cheaply.
