YENİ Party's Yavuzyılmaz reacts to planned nuclear power plant in Sinop: Warning of allocation lasting up to 100 years

YENİ Party Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz made statements regarding the nuclear power plant planned to be built in Sinop.

Using the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant as an example, Yavuzyılmaz claimed that the project in Sinop is also intended to be implemented through a similar agreement method.

Yavuzyılmaz, who held meetings in Sinop together with YENİ Party Trabzon MP Sibel Suiçmez, visited the 15 September Journalists Association. YENİ Party Sinop Provincial Chair Aykut Cem Yalçınkaya and Sinop Deputy Mayor Aysun Özsönmez also attended the visit.

Speaking about the nuclear power plant agenda after the association visit, Yavuzyılmaz stated that Turkey's most significant experience in this field began with the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Arguing that there are no Turkish members on the board of directors of Akkuyu Nuclear JSC, Yavuzyılmaz claimed that the company's management structure remains outside of Turkey's oversight capacity.

“A piece of homeland territory in the Eastern Mediterranean was abandoned to Russia. Now, a piece of homeland territory in the Black Sea, in Sinop, is being allocated to a foreign country in the same way for a period that will reach 100 years.”

Yavuzyılmaz claimed that when the operating period, potential extensions, and decommissioning processes in Akkuyu are taken into account, the plant will effectively remain under foreign control for a period approaching 100 years. Stating that this situation cannot be evaluated as an ordinary commercial business transfer, Yavuzyılmaz reacted to the introduction of a similar model for Sinop.

EMPHASIS ON THE PRESS PROFESSION LAW

15 September Journalists Association President Cengiz Demirel explained the problems faced by press workers during the visit. Demirel stated that reporters working in the field, in particular, need protection against employers and that a press profession law must be enacted.

Yavuzyılmaz also expressed that the press profession law has been on their agenda for a long time. Stating that the problems experienced by journalists and media workers should be brought to Parliament, Yavuzyılmaz argued that it is not realistic to expect a solution from the current government.

Sibel Suiçmez made evaluations regarding her meetings in the Erfelek district. Expressing that tradespeople and citizens are complaining about economic conditions, Suiçmez said, “Both the seller and the buyer, both the producer and the consumer are complaining. We haven't seen a single soul who is satisfied.”
