Preparations for a new era in Turkish passports

A new initiative has been launched to facilitate travel between the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). If the plan is implemented, citizens of OTS member countries will be able to pass through dedicated passport control points at airports.

Following the 3rd Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated that work is underway on a system similar to the model applied in European Union countries.

With the proposed regulation, the goal is to create separate control lanes at airports for citizens of the organization's member countries. This aims to reduce waiting times at border and airport crossings and to make travel processes faster.

The countries where the application will begin and the timeline for its implementation have not yet been finalized. Once the studies are completed, details regarding the scope of the system and its effective date are expected to be clarified.
