According to Samsung, the memory crisis could deepen in 2027: How long will the RAM shortage last?
Samsung projects that the supply crunch in DRAM and NAND could worsen in 2027, and that the RAM shortage may persist until 2028.
A new warning has come from Samsung regarding the memory supply shortage that has been felt in the global technology sector since last year. According to assessments shared during the company's second-quarter fiscal year 2026 financial results meeting, the current DRAM and NAND memory shortage is expected to become even more severe next year.
According to Samsung's forecast, the contraction in the RAM sector may not end in the short term either. The company estimates that the shortage could continue until at least 2028. This outlook suggests that cost pressures may persist across many product groups that rely on memory components.

The surge in demand driven by artificial intelligence stands out as one of the primary reasons for the bottleneck in the sector. The rapidly growing need for memory in data centers, AI infrastructure, and high-performance systems is complicating capacity planning for manufacturers.
While this demand explosion supports sales and profitability in Samsung's semiconductor division, it is creating a different effect on the company's consumer electronics side. It is stated that the increase in memory costs is putting pressure on the profit margins of products such as the Galaxy series of smartphones and televisions.
The reflection of rising costs in retail prices carries the risk of weakening consumer demand. Samsung's assessment indicates that memory-focused price pressure could become more visible in computers, smartphones, televisions, and similar electronic products in 2027.
