Google introduces Gemma for responsible AI development

Google has announced Gemma, a new generation of open-source models, with the aim of helping to develop artificial intelligence responsibly.

In a statement, the company noted that the Gemma model family was built using the same research and technology as its AI chatbot Gemini and features state-of-the-art open-source models.

It was stated that the new model was designed by DeepMind and other Google teams, drawing inspiration from Gemini. The statement also indicated that tools to guide the responsible use of Gemma models would support developer innovation and encourage collaboration.

While it was noted that Gemma is available worldwide starting today, it was announced that the model has been released in two different sizes: Gemma 2B and Gemma 7B. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the "Responsible Generative AI Toolkit" will provide guidance for building safer AI applications with Gemma.

Meanwhile, Google renamed its AI chatbot Bard to "Gemini" earlier this month and launched a paid subscription for the new version, "Gemini Advanced".
