HMD has unveiled its new model, the Nokia 2360 Flip, which continues the classic keypad phone line. The device, featuring a flip design, focuses on those who want a simpler experience away from the complexity of smartphones, with functions specifically developed for elderly users and students.
The model's standout feature is not just its nostalgic design. HMD has positioned the device on a structure that family members can manage remotely. With the HMD Family Assist application available for Android and iOS, contacts can be added to the phone remotely, reminders can be set, volume levels can be changed, and emergency preferences can be adjusted.
It is noteworthy that commands in this remote management system are transmitted via SMS. Thus, it is stated that the phone does not need a cellular data connection to receive commands. The device also features a physical SOS button. When this button is held down for three seconds, the phone calls a pre-determined contact and automatically sends an SMS notification to five emergency numbers.
The School Mode, prepared for students, can limit the device to only the clock and emergency calls during class hours. Controls such as a safe contact list and individual app blocking can also be locked with a Family PIN code.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND LIMITATIONS
The most significant technical limitation of the Nokia 2360 Flip is on the network support side. The phone only works on 2G networks, in GSM 900/1800 MHz frequencies; the device does not have 4G LTE support.
The device has a 2.8-inch QVGA main screen and a 1.77-inch QQVGA notification screen on the outside of the cover. While there is a basic QVGA camera with LED flash support on the back, features also include an FM radio, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a USB-C port. It was reported that a version without an outer screen is also available.
Coming with the S30+ operating system, the phone offers 4 MB of RAM and 4 MB of internal storage. The storage space can be increased up to 32 GB with a microSD card. It is stated that the removable 1,450 mAh battery offers up to 15 days of standby time or up to 27.5 hours of talk time. The price of the Nokia 2360 Flip has not yet been announced.
