Claim: Galatasaray makes official offer to former player Eren Derdiyok for youth academy role
It has been claimed that Galatasaray has made an official offer to former player Eren Derdiyok to take charge of the U17 team.
A notable claim regarding Galatasaray's youth academy restructuring has emerged. It is alleged that the yellow-red club has made an official offer to their former player Eren Derdiyok to serve as the technical director of the U17 team.
According to a report by Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, the Galatasaray management wants to appoint Derdiyok, who wore the yellow-red jersey between 2016 and 2019 during his playing career, to a position within the academy.
38-year-old Eren Derdiyok won two championships during his time at Galatasaray. It was noted that Derdiyok, who turned to a coaching career after his playing days, served as an assistant coach for the Basel U17 team last season and the Basel U19 team this season.
According to the claim, if the Swiss club Basel approves his departure, Derdiyok will begin his duties at the Galatasaray Academy.
At a time when Galatasaray is targeting a 5th consecutive Süper Lig championship and at least a quarter-final appearance in the Champions League for the new season, this potential move on the youth development side is also significant for the club's academy planning.
