Heavy match-fixing sanctions from UEFA for Arsenal Tivat
Montenegrin club Arsenal Tivat has been banned from European competitions for 10 years by UEFA due to match-fixing, with the club also facing severe penalties.
UEFA has imposed heavy sanctions on Montenegrin representative Arsenal Tivat for match-fixing during their UEFA Conference League first qualifying round matches against Armenia's Alashkert in 2023. Arsenal Tivat drew 1-1 away in the first leg but suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at home in the return leg. These results drew UEFA's attention and triggered a detailed investigation.
As a result of the investigation, it was decided that Arsenal Tivat would be banned from European competitions for 10 years. Furthermore, defender Nikola Celebic and sporting director Ranko Krgovic received lifetime bans from football. Other team players Cetko Manojlovic, Dusan Puletic, and Radule Zivkovic were suspended from football for 10 years.
UEFA also fined the club 500 thousand euros and announced that it would apply to FIFA to extend these sanctions until the end of the 2034-2035 season. These decisions have once again highlighted UEFA's zero-tolerance policy regarding match-fixing.
