In a statement from the AFA, it was noted that following discussions with head coach Lionel Scaloni, the decision was made to give Messi the "farewell he deserves." The federation also announced that the squad that won the 2022 World Cup would be invited to the Benin match.

The statement read, "Following discussions with national team head coach Lionel Scaloni, we would like to announce that we have decided to invite the world's best player, the symbol of our national team, our captain Lionel Messi, for the farewell he deserves on October 6."

Messi, who made 207 appearances for the Argentina national team, scored 125 goals in those matches. The experienced footballer had announced in August that he was ending his national team career.

Under the management of Lionel Scaloni, Argentina will play friendly matches against Burkina Faso, Benin, and Bolivia during the international break. The Benin match stands out as a special game where Messi will bid farewell to the fans while wearing the national jersey.
