Fenerbahçe's Spanish footballer Marco Asensio made a statement on his social media account following his injury and operation. According to the announcement by the yellow-navy club, Asensio, who underwent an arthroscopic operation in Spain due to a cartilage lesion in his left knee joint, is expected to have a treatment and rehabilitation process lasting approximately 3 months.
In his statement, Asensio noted that he tried to return sooner than expected to help his team during the injury process. Emphasizing the importance of the goal, the Spanish player stated that he risked his health to be on the pitch with his teammates.
At the end of last season, I suffered an injury that prevented me from taking the field for the remainder of the season. Given the importance of our goal, I believed that we could reach the championship with my team on the pitch. I tried every way to return to my team and help them sooner than expected, accepting that it could pose certain risks to my health in the future.
Stating that the pain he experienced in recent weeks did not allow him to play, Asensio said that they decided to seek medical intervention for this reason. The experienced footballer noted that the process was difficult and at times frustrating, but that he has begun his work to return to the pitch.
I am someone who never gives up and never stops fighting until the end. However, since the pain I have experienced over the last three weeks did not allow me to play, we decided to stop and resort to medical intervention.
Asensio also thanked the fans for their support, saying, “From today on, I am focused on working to return to the pitch with my teammates and reunite with all the fans in the stands. See you soon, stronger than ever.”
