For Turkish citizens who want to travel abroad without dealing with passport and visa procedures, Georgia continues to be one of the most notable options. Citizens of the Republic of Turkey can enter Georgia with their valid new-type chip-enabled ID cards and stay in the country visa-free for up to one year.
This practice provides significant convenience not only for those planning short vacations but also for those considering longer stays. However, this right does not imply permission to work, start a business, or permanently settle in the country.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE INSURANCE REQUIREMENT
For Turkish citizens traveling to Georgia with an ID card or an ordinary passport, a mandatory travel insurance policy will be in effect as of January 1, 2026. The policy, which must include health and accident coverage, is required to cover the entire duration of the stay in the country.
The insurance policy in question is required to offer a minimum coverage of 30,000 Georgian Lari and must be presented in English or Georgian. Therefore, even though there is no visa or passport requirement, meeting the insurance conditions before the trip is of great importance.
For travel to Georgia, the ID card must be valid and of the new chip-enabled type. According to information published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa exemption for up to one year is not limited to holders of ordinary (maroon) passports; it also covers Turkish citizens holding other types of passports.
Batum, which stands out for its proximity to the Turkish border, is preferred especially for short vacations due to its coastline and tourist spots. The capital, Tbilisi, is among the main routes that attract visitors with its historical texture, traditional architecture, and city life.
Those planning to go to Georgia are advised to check the validity of their ID cards, current border crossing rules, and mandatory insurance documents before traveling.
