Fatih Municipality announces: Bostanbaşı Abdullah Ağa Mosque to be restored

Bostanbaşı Abdullah Ağa Mosque, one of the historical heritages of the Fatih district, is being rebuilt.

Built in the 16th century (1000 Hijri, 1525 AD) by its founder Bostancıbaşı Abdullah Ağa, the mosque has been known by many different names throughout history.

The structure, known in old records by names such as Cellad Paşa Mosque, Bostancıbaşı Abdullah Ağa Masjid, Cellad Mosque, Bostancıbaşı Mosque, Bostan Mosque, and Yanık Mosque, was ruined in the great Aksaray fire that occurred in 1936. It was subsequently demolished due to road expansion works.

REGISTERED STRUCTURE

The Bostanbaşı Abdullah Ağa Mosque, which is a registered structure, is being rebuilt in Aksaray Neighborhood, Namık Kemal Street, and Küçük Langa Street in accordance with the board decision taken. The reconstruction projects of the mosque, which has a 50-square-meter footprint, have been approved by the relevant conservation boards, and the implementation process has been initiated by Fatih Municipality.

This valuable structure, which is currently owned by the General Directorate of Foundations, will be brought back to life in accordance with its original form and added to our cultural heritage.
