Draining accounts with fake screens: 12 banks in Turkey are at risk!
A new cyber threat targeting the mobile applications of 12 banks in Turkey has emerged. The virus, known as GodFather, is putting users' accounts in danger.
Android device users in Turkey are facing a new wave of cyberattacks. An updated version of the malicious software known as GodFather is carrying out organized attacks targeting the mobile applications of Turkish banks. According to a report by the cybersecurity firm Zimperium, this virus can automatically detect banking applications installed on devices.
As reported by DonanımHaber, when users open their mobile banking applications, they are met with a fake interface created by the virus. This fake screen instantly transmits critical information such as usernames, passwords, and PINs to cyber attackers.
GodFather does not just collect information; it also carries out unauthorized money transfers.
THE VIRUS IS PRESENT IN 12 BANKS IN TURKEY
The mobile applications of at least 12 banks in Turkey are being targeted by this virus. To distract users, warnings such as 'Your application is not up to date' or black screens are displayed on the app interface. Meanwhile, account-draining operations are being performed in the background.
Experts advise Android users to download applications only from official app stores, not to neglect security updates, and to be vigilant against unusual behavior in their mobile banking applications. Additionally, it is recommended to enable extra security measures such as two-factor authentication.
