Beet producers in Eskişehir have reacted to the purchase price announced at 3,720 TL per ton for 2026. The Eskişehir Young Farmers Association has launched a petition campaign on the grounds that the price does not cover costs.

The association's campaign was supported by YENİ Party Deputy Chairman Utku Çakırözer, YENİ Party PM member and Eskişehir Deputy İbrahim Arslan, as well as YENİ Party Odunpazarı District Chairman Cevahir Çalıkuşu Yazıcı and the district administration.

Association President Burak Kuşan drew attention to the increase in production inputs, especially fertilizer, seeds, and diesel, and stated that the 20 percent increase in the beet purchase price is insufficient.

DEMAND IS 4,500 TL

Kuşan reminded that the beet purchase price, which was 3,100 TL last year, was increased to 3,720 TL this year. Stating that the signatures collected within the scope of the campaign will be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Kuşan expressed that the producers' expectation is at least 4,500 TL per ton.

YENİ Party Deputy Chairman Utku Çakırözer stated that the demands of the beet producers should be met and called for the purchase price to be increased to 4,500 TL. Çakırözer also said that VAT and SCT exemptions should be provided to producers for diesel and fertilizer.

YENİ Party Eskişehir Deputy İbrahim Arslan also noted that producers are asking for a price update to cover their costs and stated that his party supports this demand. Odunpazarı District Chairman Cevahir Çalıkuşu Yazıcı pointed to diesel prices and argued that the announced increase is unacceptable.

Producers stated that if the demands are not met, there could be a serious decrease in the number of farmers planting beets next season. Stating that plantings could decrease not only for beets but also for products such as corn and wheat, the producers said, "The farmer is going bankrupt while working."

Stating that the campaign will last for 10 days, Burak Kuşan called on everyone from producers to non-governmental organizations, and from political parties to the people of Eskişehir, to support it. Kuşan said that they are waiting for not only opposition but also ruling party deputies to visit the association.
