The US Senate has approved an economic and military support package for 3 countries.

The support package, which faced intense opposition from Republicans, is being described as a 'war budget'.

The 60-vote threshold required for the budget to be debated was surpassed in today's vote, with 66 votes in favor and 33 against.

"OUR SECURITY, OUR DEMOCRACY, AND OUR VALUES..."

Senator Chuck Schumer, who worked intensively for the approval of the support package, made the following assessment to the press:

“At the heart of this supplemental package is our security, our democracy, and our values. This is a down payment for the survival of Western democracy and American values.

In the coming days, the whole world will remember what the Senate did. Nothing, nothing would make Putin happier than to see Congress waver in its support for Ukraine right now; nothing would help him more on the battlefield than that.”

If the bill passes the Senate as expected, the next step will be to submit it for approval to the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold the majority.

Republican Mike Johnson in the House of Representatives stated in his assessment to The Guardian that the package does not offer anything regarding 'border security', which he considers the US's most pressing problem.

However, it is known that there is a majority in the House of Representatives that supports the aid package.

WHAT IS IN THE SUPPORT PACKAGE?

60 billion dollars of the 95 billion dollar package consists of aid to be provided to Ukraine.

According to most experts, the support package is of critical importance for Ukraine, which is experiencing ammunition shortages. Additionally, 10 billion dollars of the package will be used for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Gaza.

On the other hand, considering the possibility of a potential tension with China in the Pacific Ocean, the US will also provide economic aid to its allies in the Pacific region, primarily Taiwan, through the same package so that they can make defense investments.
