Armed attack on church in Texas
An armed attack took place at a large church in the U.S. state of Texas just before a Sunday service where many people were in attendance.
According to reports in the national press, an armed attack occurred at Lakewood Church, located approximately 10 kilometers from downtown Houston, just before a service to be conducted by Pastor Joel Osteen.
In a statement made on the Houston Police Department's X account, people were urged to stay away from the area.
In a message shared on Lakewood Church's X account, the sound of gunfire was confirmed, and it was noted that law enforcement units were on the scene.
ATTACKER SHOT
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez also reported that the potential attacker had been shot by police and that the church was being searched.
An eyewitness stated that they were waiting for the service to begin when they heard the gunshots.
According to data from the Hartford Institute for Religion Research, approximately 45 thousand people attend the Sunday services each week at Lakewood Church, which is the 3rd largest church in the country.
