Attacker who assaulted nun in Israel taken into custody

Systematic attacks against Christians continue in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. In an incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 28, a 36-year-old Israeli citizen attacked a French-born nun working at the French Biblical and Archaeological School in Jerusalem. The 48-year-old nun, whom the attacker ran toward, knocked to the ground, and kicked while she was down, sustained a head injury in the incident.

School Director Olivier Poquillon condemned the attack in a written statement and called on Israeli security forces to take action.

As a result of the intervention by Israeli police, the attacker was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 29. An investigation has been launched against the attacker on charges of a "racist attack." The police also shared footage of the attack and the moments the suspect was taken into custody. In the footage of the attack, it was seen that people in the vicinity approached the scene after the incident, and one person kicked the attacker.

In a written statement issued by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident was described as a "shameful act," and it was stated that the attacker is being held in custody. The statement also claimed that despite criticisms regarding Israel's occupation, particularly in East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, the Tel Aviv administration "maintains its commitment to protecting freedom of religion and worship for all faiths."
