'Even those who have lost both eyes will be able to see' thanks to Blindsight device

Elon Musk's US-based neurotechnology firm, Neuralink, has claimed that thanks to their new invention, 'Blindsight,' it will be possible for visually impaired individuals to see.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted the 'breakthrough device' designation to the device called 'Blindsight,' which aims to enable people with visual impairments to see.

A statement regarding the matter was made from Neuralink's account on the social media platform X.

The post stated that the FDA had granted Blindsight the 'breakthrough device' designation.

In a post on X, Elon Musk also indicated that with Blindsight, even those who have lost both eyes or have been blind from birth could be enabled to see, provided their visual cortex is intact.

Citing the character Geordi La Forge from the famous Star Trek series, who was blind but could see through a device, Musk noted that Blindsight has the potential to provide vision in infrared, ultraviolet, and even radar wavelengths.

Musk shared the message, 'To set expectations correctly, the vision will be low resolution at first, like Atari graphics, but eventually, it has the potential to be better than natural vision.'
