Fire near Metehan Border Crossing in Nicosia: Homes and businesses damaged
A fire that broke out near the border crossing in Nicosia, the capital of the TRNC, was brought under control in a short time with the intervention of the fire department.
A fire broke out near the Metehan Border Crossing, located on the line separating the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, in Nicosia, the capital of the TRNC.
According to information received from TRNC fire department officials, the fire started for an as-yet undetermined reason at around 15:30 local time. Due to the flames, some homes, businesses, and animal shelters in the area sustained damage.
The fire was brought under control in a short time with the intervention of fire crews. Officials reported that crossings at the Metehan Border Crossing were not affected during the fire.
It was stated that cooling efforts are continuing in the area and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
