Former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren speaks out against Netanyahu

Former Israeli Ambassador to Washington Michael Oren said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has become a heavy political burden in terms of relations with the US. Speaking on a local radio program, Oren stated that Netanyahu remaining in office is deepening the deadlock on the Washington line.

Oren argued that the policies pursued by Netanyahu and the impression he has left on the international stage are damaging Israel's foreign relations. Using the phrase, "The fact that Netanyahu is a toxic political figure is clear," the former ambassador expressed that repairing ties with the US under the current leadership is "near impossible."

According to Oren, regaining support in Washington will not be possible solely through a change in leadership. Stating that Israel needs to undergo a more fundamental transformation in its foreign policy and security approach, Oren noted that the stance of Democratic circles and allies in the US, in particular, will not change easily as long as the current line continues.

In his remarks, Oren also touched upon the policies that could be pursued during the term of US President Donald Trump, predicting that pressure could come from Washington due to the military situation in and around Gaza. Oren emphasized that Israel must prioritize the search for lasting peace with its neighbors and diplomatic steps.
