Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on political leaders to adopt a constructive approach in coalition negotiations following yesterday's parliamentary elections. Herzog stated that all parties must take responsibility to ensure the country is not dragged into another election.
In his first assessment after the elections, Herzog said he expects leaders participating in coalition talks to come to the table with an "open mind," adding, "As I said before the elections, and especially after yesterday's results, we must do whatever it takes to avoid leading our country to another election."
Herzog announced that he will receive the official election results from Central Elections Committee Chairman Noam Solberg next week. Stating that the consultation process with the leaders of the political parties that entered parliament will begin after this stage, Herzog said, "We will take opinions from every political group, ask questions, and make assessments."
Describing the turnout at the polls as "quite impressive," Herzog noted that for the first time in a long while, an election with extremely high participation had taken place.
