Homes evacuated in Germany due to weather conditions

According to reports in the national press, flooding caused by heavy rainfall in recent days and rising water levels in rivers have negatively affected daily life.

More than 100 people were evacuated from their homes in the city of Rinteln in Lower Saxony, and approximately 400 people were evacuated in the town of Windehausen in the state of Thuringia.

Heringen Mayor Matthias Marquart stated in a press release that the situation in the region is dangerous, noting that electricity has been cut off in the town of Windehausen, the town is inaccessible, and landline telephone services are not working. Stating that toilets are also unusable, Marquart called on the public to leave the area.

Marquart noted that 400 of the 500 people living in Windehausen complied with the call and left their homes, and 280 people informed the crisis desk that they had left their homes and would stay with relatives.

A statement from the Heringen Municipality announced that entry to the town of Windehausen has been prohibited and that only rescue teams are permitted to enter the area.

In the Goslar region of Lower Saxony, it was stated that the water in the Okertal Dam has reached its highest level. It was also reported that some roads near the riverbed in the city of Braunschweig have been closed against the possibility of the Oker River overflowing.

In the city of Rinteln, it was noted that 108 people were evacuated, many houses had their basements flooded, and the fire department is fighting against the flooding by creating barriers with sandbags.

In the city of Celle, it was stated that water levels in local rivers have risen due to heavy rainfall, some house basements have been submerged, and the region is being monitored by drones.

It was also reported that in many regions such as Oldenburg, Northeim, and Leer, fire crews and volunteers are fighting against flooding and rising water levels in rivers.
